HELB Alert for KMTC, University and TVET Students

Two different deadlines, two different groups. Know which one applies to you.

KMTC Certificate and Diploma students: HELB opened a dedicated loan application window for KMTC students for the first time ever. Deadline: September 30, 2026.

University and TVET first-time applicants: The Ministry of Education, through Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, has extended the funding application deadline to September 21, 2026 — after the initial window closed August 31 with 789,422 applications already received.

"All eligible first-time applicants in universities and TVETs are invited to promptly apply for funding within this extended window," CS Ogamba confirmed.

The government has already disbursed Ksh22.12 billion in first-semester funding to continuing university and TVET students — so if you're a first-year who missed the original deadline, this extension exists specifically for you.

Quick summary: ✓ KMTC Certificate & Diploma students → apply by September 30 at hef.co.ke ✓ University/TVET first-year students → apply by September 21 at hef.co.ke ✓ Continuing students → your loan applications opened earlier and follow a separate cycle

What to have ready: ✓ National ID ✓ Admission letter from your institution ✓ Parents' or guardians' ID copies ✓ Guarantor details ✓ Correct bank account details to avoid disbursement delays

Applications are processed under the current Student-Centred Funding Model. Don't wait until the final day — apply now while you have time to fix any errors on your application.
