System Analysis and Design

Lecture slides that define the system, systems analysis and systems design, classify types of system, and set out the principal functions of the systems analyst and the phases of the systems development life cycle. Treats the analyst as boundary-spanning, concerned with detecting information from two primary sources and sending information back into the environment, and covers data gathering and analysis tools and a selection of design tools. Continues into enterprise resource planning and the reach of systems designed to operate globally rather than locally, the analyst's work with programmers on original software and with users on documentation, and the iterative alternative to the structured approach in which analysis, design and implementation repeat module by module until the project is complete.
