Growing Leaders Programme Session 2: Leadership Theories

Survey of the theories and models of leadership, ancient and contemporary: the great man theory, trait theory, behavioural approaches, participative decision making, situational and transactional and transformational leadership, and what each implies for practice. Covers the supportive end of the behavioural model, where leadership attends to people's feelings, comfort, appreciation and the reduction of stress so that relationships and the social stability of the group are preserved. Ends with the exercise of choosing the theory you would apply and defending the choice, and five differences between transactional and transformational leadership.
