EMM 305: Metrology First Semester Examination
Measurement paper for the aerospace degree. Explains with sketches the working of mechanical optical and flow or velocity type pneumatic comparators, the flatness testing interferometer and how interferometry checks the height of two slip gauges. Continues with laboratory methods for measuring the radius of a concave surface when the edges are well defined and when they are rounded up, the Talysurf surface meter, the rolling gear testing machine, the Solex pneumatic comparator detecting departure from a datum, and measurements taken with balls, rollers, slip gauges, a vernier height gauge and a depth gauge on a tapered hole and a transverse recess. Closes on the angle dekkor and the set-up for determining a precise forty-five degree angle on a v-block, sine bar methods for checking and locating unknown angles, the optical projector, measuring thread pitch by optical projection, and the taper angle of a taper plug gauge.
