Geriatric Nursing Continuous Assessment Test

A one-hour continuous assessment test of thirty marks set by the nursing department of the Kangema campus. Section A is ten multiple-choice items: the process of ageing as progressive and irreversible, the condition most often under-diagnosed and untreated in the ageing population, the thin and fragile skin of the elderly, cardiovascular disease as the most common cause of death, the component produced in the body to fight an infection, the respiratory change that suggests old age in falling lung capacity, what polypharmacy increases the risk of, the intervention among back massage, feeding, hair care and oral hygiene that calls for gloves under standard precautions, the most common type of dementia in the elderly, and the minimum age at which a person is classified as elderly. Section B carries four short-answer questions worth twenty marks in all: five roles of the nurse in the care of the elderly with dementia, five ways of maintaining dignity for the elderly, five forms of abuse faced by the elderly, and their common health needs.
