EBM 501: Biomedical Instrumentation II Course Outline
First semester outline for the unit, scanned and signed by the senior lecturer on 3 October 2019. Prerequisite Biomedical Instrumentation I; the objectives are to analyse an instrumentation and measurement system, design and analyse a data acquisition system for bio-electrical signals, describe the noise and interference met in electrophysiological signals and design cancellation for them, and model the electrodes used in biomedical data. Covers patient monitoring, assisting and therapeutic devices, telemetry and chemical transducers for blood and respiratory gases. Two hours of lectures and two of tutorials a week, assessed 70 per cent end of semester examination and 30 per cent continuous assessment split into tests, assignments and labs, with every lab required before the student proceeds, and fifty-four references.
