Project Planning, Scheduling and Resource Allocation
A project presentation on planning and scheduling that first summarises the project management process from defining the project and stating the need, problem or opportunity and its objectives, then compares the scheduling techniques: milestone charts, Gantt or simple bar charts with horizontal bars against a time scale, the critical path method, graphical evaluation and review technique, and the precedence diagram method. The second half is a full case study of a bridge project over the Yamuna linking the Allahabad districts of Naini, Jhusi and Phaphamau across an industrial centre of automobile, fertiliser and textile firms, where a narrow two-lane combined highway and railway bridge of the late nineteenth century could no longer carry increasing vehicle weights and sizes. Documents the schedule overrun, a period scheduled from January 1994 to July 2004 against a planned January 1994 to March 2000, or 169 per cent of the plan, and the monitoring regime of seven instrumented positions checking alignment, weight and gradient of the pylons twenty-four hours a day from the toll booth control room, with joint fabrication and the resource and cost schedules that followed.
