X-Ray Machines and Digital Radiography

Slides on diagnostic radiology, which works because different body structures have different permeability to X-rays. Covers the production of the rays and the interactions that matter in image formation, and the three ways of quantifying radiation: exposure in roentgens, absorbed dose in rads and the relative biological damage in rems. Contrasts viewing an image directly on a fluorescent screen, which is relatively faint, needs a dark room and forces the radiologist to acclimatise, with digital radiography and its easier post-processing, lower doses and the possibility of digital storage, and closes on the physical parameters used to rate a detector, beginning with detector quantum efficiency.
