Resource Scheduling Under Time and Resource Constraints
Lecture slides dividing resource scheduling into time-limited and resource-limited scheduling, on the ground that the project scheduling methods covered earlier did not consider the constraint of resources, so that projects either must meet a fixed deadline with effectively unlimited resources or must work within a fixed resource base. The objectives are to determine exactly what resources a project requires and make them available when needed, and to use each resource as efficiently as possible. Works through a resource histogram read week by week, showing two staff required in week ten against five in week fourteen, the bottom row of the graph being the critical path where every item has zero float, and how levelling the resource profile as far as possible reduces cost. The second half adjusts project duration to a fixed level of resources, with an activity table of predecessors, durations, early and late starts and floats, and an exercise in plotting the chart under a strict limit of four resources.
