ECU 500: Engineering Practice and Ethics Examination Paper
Examination paper set to the electrical, petroleum, biosystems, aerospace and biomedical engineering programmes, in which question one is compulsory and any two of the remaining questions are answered. Question one asks what an engineer is, for two important aspects of the code of ethics for engineers and why each matters in an engineer's work, and for the difference between the engineer-client and the engineer-contractor relationship, one problem that may poison the relationship between an engineer and a contractor on a project and how such a problem can be resolved. It then sets a case in which a project managed by a reputable firm with a record of similar work has its contract awarded to the lowest qualified bidder whose owner is the consultant's brother-in-law, and asks whether the firm should be awarded the contract and what the engineer should do.
