EEE 400: Communication System I Continuous Assessment Test 1

Continuous assessment test in which ten questions each carry three marks. Explains baseband and bandpass waveforms with illustrations, three analogue modulation systems and their applications, and three representations of the complex envelope of a signal. Shows double sideband suppressed carrier synchronous detection with a sketch and formula, the features of a superheterodyne receiver, and the components of a bandpass communication system. Works the mapping operator for an amplitude modulated signal to peak envelope power for a 400 volt carrier with a modulation index of zero point eight, explains the vector modulator and how it produces a signal modulated in in-phase and quadrature form, and the significance of the modulation index in amplitude and frequency modulation. Closes on a broadcast system with a maximum deviation of 75 kilohertz carrying a 10 kilohertz single tone: the change in bandwidth when the modulating frequency doubles, and again when its amplitude doubles.
