EBM 508: Industrial and Hospital Management Second Semester Examination

Second semester paper for the biomedical engineering degree, sat on Tuesday the first of February 2021 from two to four, question one compulsory and any two others. Question one explicated the factors of production with examples, the types of economies of scale for consumers and producers, and five types of market from the variety of market systems that exist depending on the industry and the organisations within it. The remaining questions illustrate with a diagram how supply and demand together determine the quantity and price of a good sold in a market and explain the determinants of quantity demanded; discuss five techniques used in product demand forecasting and the term management with four conventional management theories, their proponents and the main argument of each; explain the steps involved in the controlling component of management and, with local examples, the determinants of supply; and work a public health case on cigarette smoking, demonstrating how the law of demand can be applied through policy to reduce smoking in Kenya, explicating the four major sources of scale and scope economies, and describing four techniques for avoiding project resource overload.
