Textbook of Finite Element Analysis
by P. Seshu
About This Book
A first course in the finite element method that builds every formulation from the governing differential equation. Weighted residual methods lead to the weak, or variational, form, and the one-dimensional bar and heat-transfer elements are derived element by element before the general procedure is stated. A parallel route through the stationarity of a functional introduces the principle of stationary total potential energy and the Rayleigh-Ritz method. Later chapters develop one-dimensional and two-dimensional analysis, dynamic analysis, and a set of worked application examples, with problems closing each chapter.
