EBM 506: Biomechanics II Course Slides, Kinematics and Knee Replacement Design

The unit's lecture slides by Dr June Madete for the first semester of the fifth year: kinematic geometry and the description of body position and displacement, the rigid body, location and orientation, the techniques used to describe body orientation with the matrix method, Euler and Cardan angles and the helical axis, the tribology of friction and wear in the body, then the design criteria for total knee replacement - motion, forces, geometry, constraint and replicability - the natural knee's constraint and laxity characteristics and how designs try to reproduce them, fixed and mobile-bearing and meniscal designs including the Oxford and New Jersey knees, the coefficient of wear and its measurement, shock absorption, and the lubrication of human and artificial joints.
