AC-DC Converters for Variable Speed Drives
Notes on the controlled rectifiers used as ac-dc converters in industrial variable speed drives, classified into single-phase and three-phase forms and within each into semi, full and dual converters. The quadrant map is the organising device: a semi-converter is a one-quadrant converter with a single polarity of output voltage and current, a full converter is two-quadrant and a dual converter four-quadrant. Works through the single-phase semi-converter with a highly inductive load, its freewheeling operation and the better power factor it gives and the applications up to fifteen kilowatts for which it is used, with the output voltage and current waveforms and the average-voltage calculation for each configuration.
