EMM 211: Engineering Mechanics II First Semester Examination
Kinetics paper built on curvilinear and relative motion: the total acceleration of a ship steering a circular path while its speed is reduced, the maximum height and ground impact of a rocket whose engine fails in flight, and the relative velocity and separation of two vehicles leaving a port on different bearings. Asks for the radius of gyration, the moment of inertia of a cylinder about its axis, and the time a constant torque must act on a flywheel shaft against bearing friction to reach a given angular velocity. Moves into the instantaneous centre method for linked bars, a relative velocity and acceleration analysis by vector resolution for an unloading mechanism, and the motion of crates released on an inclined surface under static and kinetic friction.
